For sale antique print from. Maison Bonfils photograph of the Sphinx Egypt, early 1900s. This is an original, unframed, approximately 8.5 x11" on 13 x16" heavy paper suitable for matting, framing and display.
Félix Bonfils (1831 - 1885) was a French photographer and writer who was active in the Middle East. Fand élix worked as a bookbinder until 1860 when he joined an expedition to the Levant. Soon after returning from Lebanon he became a photographer.
The family moved to Beirut in 1867 where they opened a photographic studio called "Maison Bonfils". Maison Bonfils produced thousands of photographs of the Middle East. His work became well known because the tourists who travelled to those countries bought Bonfil's photos as souvenirs. Those prints came from the estate sale of the descendants of former Vice-Consul of Russian Empire in Alexandria (Egypt) Ivan Oumov.This an ORIGINAL print from early 1900s, not a modern reprint. "Watermark" watermark was added to the picture to avoid. Unauthorized copiyng and obviously will not be present on this print. Take a look at my other items.
